New NSAI Technical Committee on Mass Engineered Timber
Ireland's construction sector is entering a new phase in the adoption of innovative, low-carbon construction methods. Mass Engineered Timber (MET) is increasingly recognised as a key material in delivering sustainable buildings while supporting national housing, climate and circular economy objectives.
The Timber in Construction Steering Group recently published its findings and recommendations aimed at increasing the use of timber in construction in Ireland. A key recommendation is the development of a National Technical Specification for the use of Mass Engineered Timber, providing clarity and consistency for designers, builders and regulators.
In response, NSAI is establishing a new Technical Committee to examine the development of a National Specification for Mass Engineered Timber and is seeking experts from across the construction sector to participate.
We are seeking representation from:
- Structural and civil engineers
- Fire engineers
- Architects and architectural technologists
- Building control professionals
- Timber manufacturers and suppliers
- Contractors and developers
- Academics and researchers
- Insurers and warranty providers
- Certification and testing bodies
- Sustainability and embodied carbon specialists
- Public sector organisations with responsibility for construction procurement
