ISO has published ISO 53800:2024 Guidelines for the promotion and implementation of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
ISO 53800 provides guidance for organisations on how to promote and implement gender equality and women's empowerment, including on the framework, resources, policies, tools and good practices for contextualizing, promoting and implementing gender equality. It focuses on overcoming the inequality arising from gender-specific roles assigned to women, girls, men and boys and is applicable to all organisations (public or private), regardless of their size, location, or field of activity.
It does not address the specific aspects of relations with labour unions or work councils, nor the country-specific regulations and compliance relating to gender diversity.
This standard aims to address systemic gender inequalities and discrimination in various spheres, including the workplace, and to foster a culture of gender equality, benefiting everyone and contributing to sustainable, people-centred development.
This standard was developed by ISO/PC 337 Guidelines for the promotion and implementation of gender equality, which is mapped to the national e-committee NSAI/TC 72 "Guidance for the promotion and implementation of gender equality". Coordinated through NSAI/TC 72, national stakeholders contributed their insights and comments on the development of ISAO 53800.
NSAI would like to thank everyone who contributed to the development of ISO 53800. It is now available to purchase from ISO 53800:2024 Guidelines for the promotion and implementation of gen (standards.ie)
