The National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) has today published its Annual Report for 2023. This report highlights the extensive scope of NSAI’s work in standardisation, certification, and metrology, showcasing the valuable role NSAI plays in supporting businesses and benefiting the wider public.

In 2023, the NSAI continued to advance its Strategic Plan 2022-2026, aiming to foster innovation for a safer, better, and more sustainable future. Over the course of 2023, NSAI delivered across the Irish business community in areas including:

  • Irish SME growth,
  • climate action and sustainability,
  • digital transformation,
  • medical technology (MedTech) growth, and
  • meeting commitments to the Housing for All policy.

Speaking on the publication of the Annual Report, NSAI Chairman of the Board, James Kennedy commented,

“2023 signifies another year for NSAI of delivering for Irish businesses and Irish society across all of NSAI’s divisions. NSAI operates at an intersection of scientific measurement and government policy, the work undertaken by NSAI evolves constantly but always keeps in mind delivery for our customers and 2023 has been no different. I commend the work of the NSAI staff team, committee members, my colleagues on the Board and other stakeholders on our shared ambition throughout 2023.

During 2023, NSAI achieved several key objectives and significant milestones, thanks to the intensive efforts and collaboration of our colleagues, board members, department officials, committee members, and other key stakeholders. NSAI is ambitious to continue to advance its role in supporting business and strives to work with clients and stakeholders to leverage the services it provides to continue to enhance Ireland’s competitiveness. NSAI utilises its specialist knowledge and expertise, together with industry best practice, to connect, facilitate, and develop the global business community. At the same time, aiming to develop innovative solutions to shape a safer, better and sustainable future.

Expanding on the publication, NSAI CEO Geraldine Larkin said:

“In 2023, Ireland marked 50 years’ membership of the European Union. It was a fitting reminder that as a small, open economy, Ireland relies heavily on external demand and international markets for sustainable, continued growth. This is vital to maintain and create jobs across our country. Standards, certification and measurement have never been more important for trade, as they enable goods and services to move freely around the EU. This makes life easier for everyone. This absolute consistency inspires consumer trust, facilitates cross-border trade, and creates new opportunities for businesses, especially those in Ireland.”
