The NSAI attended the ISO Annual Meeting 2026, joining leaders from international standards bodies to discuss the future direction of international standardisation.  NSAI was represented by Geraldine Larkin, Enda McDonnell, Niamh Sneyd, and Amanda-Jane Gainford, who attended a range of governance meetings and strategic sessions throughout the week.

Hosted by AFNOR, the French national standards body, the Annual Meeting was centred on the theme "Building Trust in a Changing World". The programme brought together standards leaders from ISO member bodies to examine how international standards can continue to support trust, innovation, sustainability, economic development, and international cooperation at a time of significant technological and societal change.

The discussion focused around responsible use of artificial intelligence, digital transformation of standards development and delivery, sustainability challenges, international trade, and the future role of standards in addressing emerging global needs.

Several sessions focused on ISO's ongoing digital evolution and the opportunities this presents for standards users, experts, and national members. Discussions explored new approaches to delivering trusted standards content, increasing accessibility to standards, supporting digital services, and ensuring that standards can be more effectively integrated into the systems and workflows used by organisations worldwide.

The Assembly also provided an opportunity for standards leaders to exchange experiences, share good practices, and strengthen international collaboration on the issues that matter most to standards users and stakeholders. Delegates heard how national standards bodies are responding to the challenges and opportunities presented by digitalisation, while ensuring that trust, transparency, and inclusivity remain at the heart of the international standards system.

Participating in this meeting is an important opportunity for the NSAI to contribute to the development of the international standards system while ensuring that Ireland remains connected to emerging global trends and opportunities.

Geraldine Larkin, CEO of the NSAI, commented on the attendance: “The ISO Annual Meeting provides a valuable opportunity for NSAI to engage directly with standards bodies from around the world, contribute to important strategic discussions and ensure that Ireland's voice is represented in shaping the future of international standardisation. This year's theme highlighted the critical role that standards play in supporting trust, confidence, innovation and international collaboration.”
