NSAI has launched a public consultation for the draft I.S. 435:2026 Roadside fencing – timber post, rails, ancillaries and erection methods. 

Public consultation period: From Tuesday 28th April 2026 until Friday 5th June 2026, inclusive. 

The scope of the draft: 
This Irish Standard specifies requirements for timber posts, rails and ancillaries used in new roadside fencing. It also includes provisions for erection of fencing by excavation and by driving. 

It does not apply to joining or connecting to existing fences.

The draft contains the following sections:   

  • Section 1 Scope  

  • Section 2 Normative References  

  • Section 3 Terms and definitions  

  • Section 4 Timber pieces 

  • Section 5 Marking  

  • Section 6 Packaging, transport and on-site storage 

  • Section 7 Fence installation 

  • Section 8 Annex A (informative) Decision process for determining preservation requirements for timber pieces 

  • Section 9 Annex B (normative) Timber preservation 

  • Section 10 Annex C (normative) Erection of timber posts by driving or excavation 

  • Section 11 Bibliography
