NSAI is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop organized by the foresight initiative called “Putting Science into Standards”.

Putting-Science-Into-Standards (PSIS) is one of the main initiatives developed by CEN and CENELEC together with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), which aims to facilitate the identification of emerging science and technology areas that could benefit from standardization.

WORKSHOP DETAILS:

The 2025 Putting-Science-Into-Standards (PSIS) workshop on “3D bioprinting: toward standards in biomedicine” will take place on 21-22 October 2025 in Brussels.

3D bioprinting is a rapidly evolving field that could revolutionize healthcare and biomedical research. This technology enables the creation of complex 3D structures using living cells and biomaterials (called bioinks), with potential applications in regenerative medicine, in vitro models for drug discovery, and cultivated meat. It has demonstrated its feasibility in laboratory settings, but significant challenges need to be addressed before its translation to clinical applications.

The primary objective of the PSIS workshop is to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the standardization needs across various stakeholders in the 3D bioprinting domain (researchers, industries, clinicians, and regulators). Following the workshop, the plan is to establish a network of interested parties for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and facilitating the development of standards that meet the needs of stakeholders.

NSAI Standard development has been involved in preliminary planning meetings along with Associate Professor Andrew Daly from NUIG, who’s research work focuses on developing bioprinting technologies inspired by organogenesis.
