The European Standardization Body, CEN, is issuing the 2nd Generation Eurocodes on a phased basis, depending on the readiness of each document. This staggered rollout means that each country is responsible for deciding when and how to adopt the new standards.

In Ireland, the NSAI has chosen a consolidated approach — opting to adopt and publish all 2nd Generation Eurocodes together once the full suite is finalised and complete.

Key dates to note:

  • End of Q1 2027: Adoption and publication of all 2nd Generation Eurocodes in Ireland
  • 30 March 2028: Formal withdrawal of the 1st Generation Eurocodes across Europe

This creates a 12-month coexistence period, allowing both sets of Eurocodes to be used. During this time:

  • Users and industry can become familiar with the new standards
  • The Irish National Annexes will be finalised to support full implementation

It is anticipated that all Irish National Annexes will be available by 30 March 2028.
