Discover how standards can help lead to a more sustainable future.
Water is one of the world’s most essential commodities – and the most precious. It is a key element of a sustainable future and a vital ingredient for renewable energy sources, food production and improving sanitation and health.
Around 40% of the world’s population doesn’t have enough water and for those that do, pollution remains a real and serious problem. Standards can help tackle many of these problems. More than 500 international standards have already been developed, covering water safety, quality and sustainability. They can help promote better water management, improve surveillance of marine resources and ensure that drinking water is of high quality.
As part of UN World Water Day 2017, NSAI is tweeting various facts and figures relating to water and its role in a sustainable future. You can view the World Water Day tweets here and join in the conversation using the hashtag #WorldWaterDay.
