Next month, October 4-7, NSAI will host an international standards meeting of the committee that is responsible for developing food product standards.  The hosting of this meeting presents an opportunity for interested parties in Ireland to observe the work of an international standards meeting. 
 

ISO TC 34 Committee 

ISO TC 34 is mainly involved in the development of test methods and product specifications.  Since its creation in 1947 ISO/TC 34 has contributed to the removal of technical barriers for trade and to the safety of food and feed products.
  ISO TC 34 Scope: Standardization in the field of human and animal foodstuffs as well as animal and vegetable propagation materials, in particular terminology, sampling, methods of test and analysis, product specifications and requirements for packaging, storage and transportation.
  The committee that is meeting in NSAI is ISO TC 34 Sub-Committee 17 – Management systems for food safety.
This committee develops management system standards for food safety and is responsible for the development of ISO 22000:2005 - Food safety management systems - Requirements for any organization in the food chain. 
This group is currently developing Guidance on how to use ISO 22000.
