Conservation of Cultural Heritage
NSAI, as the Irish Member of CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, hosted a meeting in Dublin on April 23-25, 2014, of CEN/TC 346/WG 4 – Conservation of Cultural Heritage – Protection of Collections.
The meeting included those of Task Groups within the Working Group dealing with New sites and buildings, Bio deterioration, and Risk.
NSAI has facilitated participation in CEN/TC 346 in areas related to fixed assets including buildings, and movable assets including collections, through the Office of Public Works, the National Gallery of Ireland, the Irish Professional Conservators' and Restorers'' Association, and the Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works in Ireland.
The meeting in Dublin coincided with a major refurbishment project being undertaken by the National Gallery during this, the 150th anniversary of its establishment in Dublin, and its ongoing conservation work; the Gallery's Registrar is participating in the work of WG 4, and has been put forward by NSAI during the meeting to participate in a new work item on New sites and buildings intended for the storage and use of collections.
