The Beauty Professional Standards Service Group (BPSSG) is the national mirror committee for CEN TC 409 – Beauty Salon Services. The committee has representatives from beauty salons owners, educators in the industry, suppliers of beauty salon products and insurance providers. The BPSSG is the national forum to advise NSAI on the development of standards for beauty salon services.
To ensure professional beauty therapists are suitably qualified for the treatments they offer to and to set out good practices for the establishment and management of a beauty salon. The key focus is on the safety and comfort of the client.
The BPSSG monitors the work of CEN TC 409 – Beauty salon services which is developing EN 16708 – Beauty Salon services – Requirements and recommendations for the provision of service. The standard is due for publication in 2016.
The Formal Vote ballot of the proposed draft of EN 16708 is expected February 11th to April 11th, 2016. The final standard should be published sometime after the formal vote ballot. The industry is currently not regulated or does not have much oversight nationally. The availability of a European standard will help to improve practices across Europe and ensure the overall safety of the client.
