This involves the approving of an individual vehicle or trailer against the relevant national requirements for the category of vehicle or trailer concerned.

Route to approval

This is a multi-step process

Step 1:
Select the applicable evaluation form below, complete and submit with drawings/photographs and any other attachments as requested on page 1 of form
IVA Evaluation form N2 & N3
IVA Evaluation form M1
IVA Evaluation form M2 & M3
IVA Evaluation form N1
IVA Evaluation form O1, O2
IVA Evaluation form O3, O4
IVA Evaluation form M1 special purpose


Step 2:
NSAI will review the Evaluation Form plus attachments, drawings/photographs and will contact the applicant informing them of the tests/inspections required. 


Step 3:
Applicant contacts an Approved Test Centre (ATC) to have the test/inspections identified by NSAI carried out.


Step 4:
Applicant submits application consisting of:
Test and inspection records from an Approved Test Centre (ATC)

Following satisfactory review of the application package, approval will be granted for the vehicle.  Approval is in the form of an Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) certificate issued by NSAI.
 



Vehicle Registration

For the purpose of vehicle registration, the Revenue Commissioners will require a copy of the IVA certificate.
